In this article we shall see in detail the States and Capitals of India, Union Territories and their capitals, and also the Official languages of all the states and union territories of India. Currently, there are 28 states and 8 Union Territories in India, and each of them have their own capital cities and Official languages. With effect from 31th October 2019, India has 28 States and 8 Union Territories. The State of Jammu and Kashmir was bifurcated into two Union Territories – Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh. Further, the Union territories of Daman and Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli have been merged into a single union territory.

India is home to one of the oldest civilizations in the world. It has rich cultural heritage. After centuries of struggle against foreign rule, India attained its independence and the The Republic of India was formed in 15th August 1947. India is the largest democratic country in the world. Though India has the second highest population in the world its geographical area is only the 7th largest in the world.
