CAPF AC Exam Overview

 

CAPF AC exam is a competitive exam conducted by the Union Public Service Commission(UPSC) to recruit candidates to the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF). The candidates recruited through this exam, join the forces as Assistant Commandant (AC).

The following forces recruit the candidates as Assistant Commandants (AC) through this exam.

  1. Border Security Force (BSF)
  2. Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF)
  3. Central Industrial Security Force (CISF)
  4. Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP)
  5. Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB)

CAPF AC Selection Procedure & Exam pattern

 

The CAPF Assistant Commandant (AC) selection process consists of the following stages:

  1. Written Examination
  2. Physical Standards/Physical Efficiency Tests and Medical Standards Tests
  3. Interview/Personality Test

CAPF AC Exam Pattern

CAPF AC Written Examination

CAPF AC Written exam has two papers – Paper 1, Paper 2 for a total of 450 marks.

Paper-I will consist of objective type questions for 250 marks

Paper-II will have descriptive questions for 200 marks

CAPF AC Physical Efficiency Test

Candidates qualified in the UPSC CAPF AC written exam will be eligible for this stage.

In this stage of the exam, the candidate’s physical standards and efficiency will be tested.

Both Physical Efficiency Test and Physical Standard tests are only qualifying in nature. No marks are awarded to candidates at this stage. Candidates need to qualify this stage in order to be eligible for the next stage.

CAPF AC Interview

Candidates who qualify the Physical Efficiency Test and Medical Standard tests are called for a Personal Interview.

Candidates who are short-listed for Interview/Personality Test, including those shortlisted for Interview/Personality Test provisionally will be issued a Detailed Application Form (DAF) in which among other things, they will be required to indicate their preference of Forces.

The Interview/Personality Test will carry 150 Marks. 

Final Selection

The merit list will be drawn on the basis of marks obtained by the candidates in the Written Examination and Interview/Personality Test.

CAPF AC Eligibility Criteria

 

Candidates should fulfill the following eligibility criteria in order to be eligible for CAPF AC recruitment.

  • Age Limit
  • Education Qualifications
  • Physical Standards (tested later)

Age Limit

  • Minimum Age: 20 years
  • Maximum Age: 25 years

Upper Age limit Relaxation:

  • OBC – 3 years
  • SC/ST – 5 years
  • Central Government Servants/Ex-Servicemen – 5 years 
  • Domiciled in the State of Jammu & Kashmir during the period from January 1, 1980 to December 31,
    1989 – 5 years 

 

Educational Qualification

Candidates must be graduate in any discipline from a recognized University or any equivalent qualification.

Physical Standard Test

Below are the minimum Physical standards that a candidate should meet in order to qualify the Physical standard test.

In this test, candidate’s physical efficiency is tested with various events. Below are the standards that candidates should meet in order to qualify in the Physical Efficiency Test.

CAPF Syllabus

 

Paper I: General Ability and Intelligence

The objective type questions with multiple choices in this paper will broadly cover the following areas:

1. General Mental Ability
The questions will be designed to test the logical reasoning, quantitative aptitude including numerical ability, and data interpretation.

2. General Science
The questions will be set to test general awareness, scientific temper, comprehension and appreciation of scientific phenomena of everyday observation including new areas of importance like Information Technology, Biotechnology, Environmental Science.

3. Current Events of National and International Importance:
The questions will test the candidates’ awareness of current events of national and international importance in the broad areas of culture, music, arts, literature, sports, governance, societal and developmental issues, industry, business, globalisation, and interplay among nations.

4. Indian Polity and Economy:
The questions shall aim to test candidates’ knowledge of the Country’s political system and the Constitution of India, social systems and public administration, economic development in India, regional and international security issues and human rights including its indicators.

5. History of India :
The questions will broadly cover the subject in its social, economic and political aspects. This shall also include the areas of growth of nationalism and freedom movement.

6. Indian and World Geography:
The questions shall cover the physical, social and economic aspects of geography pertaining to India and the World.

 

Paper-II: General Studies, Essay and Comprehension

Part‐A – Essay questions which are to be answered in long narrative form either in Hindi or English totaling 80 Marks. The indicative topics are modern Indian history especially of the freedom struggle, geography, polity and economy, knowledge of security and human rights issues, and analytical ability.

Part‐B – Comprehension, précis writing, other communications/language skills – to be attempted in English only (Marks 120) – The topics are Comprehension passages, précis writing, developing counter arguments, simple grammar and other aspects of language testing.

To pay in offline mode, candidates should select the option “Pay by cash” and should print the system generated Pay-in-Slip during Part-II of registration for UPSC CAPF 2020 and deposit the fee at any of SBI Branch as soon as possible.
