RBI Grade B Officer Overview 

 

Every year Reserve Bank of India (RBI) conducts RBI Grade B Officer Exam to select eligible candidates for the position of Grade B officer (General) – DR, DEPR, and DSIM in Common Seniority Group (CSG) streams, in its various branches all across the country.

Reserve Bank of India offers an excellent pay scale and reputed job profile for a Grade B Officer. Consequently, thousands of candidates every year to take this examination. Selection for RBI Grade B Officers will be done through a country-wide competitive Examination in three phases:

  1. Preliminary Examination ( Objective Test)
  2. Main Examination ( 2 Objective tests + One Descriptive Test)
  3. Personal Interview

RBI Grade B Officer Job Profile

 

Candidates selected in the RBI Grade B Officer exam will undergo training for 15 weeks.

There will be a total probation period of 2 years which can be extended to 4 years based on your performance.

On completion of 15-week training, candidates will be allotted to different departments such as Banking Supervision, Banking Regulation, Currency Issuing, Financial Markets, Public Debt Office, Foreign Exchange, HRD etc. The work profiles vary from department to department. However, you will be transferred from one department to another after some time.

 

RBI Grade B Salary

 

The Basic pay of an RBI Grade B officer is Rs 35,15o per month. You will get a total on-hand salary of Rs 60,000 (approx). This is the starting salary and increases as you grow in your career.

The PayScale for the RBI Grade B Officer is Rs. 35150-1750(9)-50900-EB-1750(2)-54400-2000(4)-62400. This means that you will be having basic pay of Rs. 35,150/- in which you will get an increment of Rs. 1,750/- up till nine years of your service. After the completion of nine years, you will get into the executive band wherein the basic pay will be of Rs. 50,900/- and then again for the next two years you will get an increment of Rs. 1,750/- and further an increment of rs. 2000/- for the following 2 years thus ending up with the basic pay of Rs. 62,400/- and this is when you don’t get any promotion.

Other Allowances

Apart from the Basic Pay, multiple emoluments such as Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, Family Allowance, Telephone Allowance, Conveyance Allowance, etc. will also be provided.

RBI Grade B 2020 Eligibility Criteria

 

There are 2 criteria that a candidate should fulfill in order to be eligible for RBI Grade B Officer Exam. They are 1) Age Limit 2) Education Qualifications.

Age Limit

  • Minimum age is 21 years
  • Maximum age is 30 years.
  • If a candidate possesses M.Phil and Ph.D. degrees, the upper age limits in these cases are 32 and 34 years respectively.

Educational Qualification [for RBI Grade B (General)]

Category Educational Qualification
Officers in Grade ‘B’ (DR) – (General) Graduation in any discipline with at least 60% marks in aggregate.

Should have scored at least 60% marks in the 12th & 10th examinations.

Officers in Grade ‘B’ (DR) – DEPR Master’s degree in economics with a minimum of 55% marks.
Officers in Grade ‘B’ (DR) – DSIM Master degree in statistics/mathematical statistics/mathematical economics/econometrics/statistics & informatics from IIT-Kharagpur/ applied statistics & informatics from IIT-Bombay with a minimum of 55% marks.
