The full form of OICL is Oriental Insurance Company Limited, which is a public sector general insurance company established in 1947. The headquarter of the company is located in New Delhi. It has 31 regional offices and more than 1800 active branches across the country. The company also has branches in Nepal, Kuwait, and Dubai. For the Financial year 2016-17, the Company procured a global premium of Rs. 11,100 crores. The Company offers more than 170 General Insurance products.

On the 2nd of February 2018, the Government of India announced the merger of Oriental Insurance with National Insurance Company Limited and United India Insurance Company.

An Administrative Officer (AO) post in Oriental India Insurance Limited (OICL) is an authoritative post where decision-making is involved. The work of AO is mainly related to the insurance policies related to various sectors such as Industrial, Health, Vehicle, etc. Apart from this, an AO will also have other management responsibilities which will increase as your career progresses.

OICL AO Prelims Exam Pattern (Phase I)

Preliminary Examination is an ONLINE, Objective Test for 100 marks. This exam has three sections and a total duration of 1 hour.

Oriental Insurance Mains Exam Pattern (Phase II)

OICL Main Examination has an Objective Test for 200 marks and Descriptive Test for 30 marks. Both these tests will be conducted Online. Descriptive Test will be administered immediately after completion of Objective Test.

(i) Objective Test:

The Objective Test is of 2 hours duration and a total of 200 marks. Further, it consists of 4 sections for Generalists and 5 sections of Specialists.

(ii) Descriptive Test

  • The Descriptive Test will be of 30 minutes duration.
  • It will consist of 30 marks & will be a Test of English Language with the following sections.
    • Letter Writing – 10 marks
    • Essay – 20 marks
  • The descriptive test will be in English and will be conducted online.
  • Your Descriptive test will be evaluated only if you clear cut off mark in each section of the Objective test.

Interview (Phase III)

  • Candidates who will be shortlisted at the end of Phase-II will be called for an Interview.
  • Candidates will have to obtain a minimum score (cutoff mark) for each section of objective test separately for the Descriptive test evaluation and for getting shortlisted for Interview.
  • Cut-offs will be decided for Descriptive paper evaluation depending on the number of vacancies available.
  • The candidates will be called in the ratio of up to three times the number of vacancies of respective stream/category.
  • The weightage of Online Examination and Interview will be 80:20 respectively.

Oriental Insurance Final Selection

Final selection will be based on consolidated marks of Main Examination & Interview. The final merit list will be prepared in descending order of the consolidated marks secured by the candidates. Candidates falling within the number of vacancies in the merit list will be considered for appointment. The selected candidates may be appointed in more than one batch as per the discretion of the Management. The seniority of the selected candidates will be based on the merit/select list. Moreover, a Waiting List of candidates not exceeding 50% of the number of vacancies may also be prepared to be utilized in the event of non-acceptance of employment offered by the candidates selected in the final merit list.

OICL AO Educational Qualifications

Accounts – M.Com. with 55% for SC/ST and 60% for Others from a recognized University

Actuaries – Graduate with 55% for SC/ST and 60% for Others in any discipline from a recognized university & has passed 4 Actuarial Papers from Institute of Actuaries of India (IAI) or Institute and Faculty of Actuary, UK (IFoA)

Engineers (Automobile) – Graduate/Post Graduate Degree in engineering(4 or 5 Years) with automobile engineering as a subject, with 55% for SC/ST and 60% for Others from a recognized University

Legal – Graduate in Law with 55% for SC/ST and 60% for Others from a recognized University

Medical Officer – M.B.B.S.

Generalist – Graduate in any stream with 55% for SC/ST and 60% for Others from a recognized University.

OICL AO Salary

An OICL AO receives a handsome salary along with other allowances & benefits.

The Basic Pay of a Newly recruited OICL AO is Rs 32,795.

OICL AO payscale is Rs. 32795-1610(14)-55335-1745(4)-62315.

The total in-hand salary of an OICL AO is Rs 51,000 (approx).

The yearly increment is Rs 1610, until the basic pay reaches Rs 55,335. After this point, you will get an increment of Rs 1745 till the basic pay reaches Rs 62,315.

Oriental Insurance AO Allowances

An OICL AO is entitled to various allowances such as House Rent Allowance, Dearness Allowance, Transport Allowance, City Compensatory Allowance,etc.,  which are revised from time to time. An OICL AO is also eligible for reimbursement related to items such as Newspapers, Briefcase, Furniture (as per eligibility), books, Group Personal Accident Insurance, LTA, etc.
